Thanks to the guys over at DirectGameCards I have a special code to give out to any of you who want to buy the PC version of Farcry 3: Blood Dragon on the cheap.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is an ‘expand-alone’ game built from the Far Cry engine. This sort of set up is pretty new in the gaming industry (the last example I can remember was Red Dead Redemption Zombies) and it means you don’t need the original game to play the expand-alone. Basically you get a self contained campaign in a different setting to Far Cry 3 and it only costs a fraction of the price. It’s smart business for developers and us gamers get cheap ‘almost new’ games to play.

So here’s how you can get it even cheaper: Head on over to DirectGameCards using the link below:

http://www.directgamecards.com/far-cry-3-blood-dragon-cd-key.html?acc=aab3238922bcc25a6f606eb525ffdc56

Add the game to your cart and then type in the code “ZiggyDragon” without the quotation marks for an added discount off the price listed. For non Euros out there this works out to be less than $10 AUD.

Please note that this version is region locked to Australia, New Zealand or Europe. Unfortunately our US buddies miss out this time. Also the link above is my affiliate link, if you buy through it I get a small amount of the purchase price at no extra cost to you. So any purchases made after clicking that link help keep me doing what I love!

RIFT, the MMORPG from Trion Worlds, is one of my favorite games, but I’ve never made any actual videos talking about why it is as good as I suggest. I decided to start a video series introducing MMO players to Rift and all of the mechanics that separate it from the ocean of other MMOs on the market.

Today’s video serves to introduce players who are already familiar with modern MMORPGs to the main mechanics that let RIFT stand apart, Rifts and Invasions. Rifts serve as bite-sized dynamic, group quests, while invasions are like Rifts but on a larger, zone-wide scale. These mechanics serve as an alternate form of leveling, of which Rift has a myriad of options. They also help keep the game fresh, as you may run into an invasion while questing or sitting in town checking the auction house. Although these types of dynamic, group based content is not unique to Rift, I’d argue that Rift’s perspective on this type of MMO rises above the rest.

If you’re interested in Rift, feel free to check it out at www.riftgame.com and check out the Rift Lite, which allows players, new and old, to play Rift for free with characters from level 1 to 20.

I’m absolutely in love with the way residual earnings works. Whenever I make a YouTube video I know that if I optimize it right not only is it going to earn a nice burst of earnings when I publish it but I know that it’s also going to keep earning small amounts for a long time to come. The secret to this long term and often juicy earnings is search engine optimization, or SEO. In this article and video I break down the SEO of a very short and unassuming video I made a while back that has earned more than $220 since it’s creation – and it’s still earning!

In the above embedded video I break down the SEO of my $220 YT video, looking at what exactly made it successful. I highly recommend checking it out as visualizing the different points can help a lot.

The Video in Question: Diablo III: Hours to Paragon Level 100 & Best Act to Farm XP

The above video was published on August 26th, 2012 and is 2:42 in duration. I published it just after the new Paragon Level system was released for Diablo 3 and it’s style is half-guide and half-news video. At the time of writing it has attracted over 80,000 views and has an estimated watchtime of 120,000 minutes. These stats are pretty nice for such a simple and easy video but they are very achievable for someone who knows how to pick the right topic and SEO content for it.

Picking an SEO Friendly Topic

An often forgotten part of SEO is that you actually need to pick a topic or a niche that has a lot of people searching for it. Diablo 3 was a solid niche at the time and will continue to be very strong for years to come. Even more important than this, however, is that the niche-within-a-niche of levelling is extremely popular. When you become familiar with your niche you will begin to notice what things are popular search topics, the things that people constantly ask. Levelling is one of these and the new Paragon Level system in D3 meant for many more months of levelling which was a great opportunity for me.

Most of Your Income Will Come from Search Traffic

This is one of the most important lessons you can learn if you want to earn a living making YT videos. You can get a lot of views and earn a bit from promotional activities but search traffic is consistent, long term and just pays better as well. Your subscriber base is another consistent long term earner but it can take a long time to build that up to a level where you can support yourself. Good SEO, on the other hand, can take effect almost immediately.

Titling Your Video Properly

Your main keywords, the real winners, should be in your title.

“Diablo 3″, “Paragon Level 100″ & “Best Act to Farm XP”.

All of the above are serious keywords and things I was pretty sure people would be searching for. There is a small amount of weighting towards the start of your title over the end, so I tend to lead in with the title of the game.

Keyword Placement in the Description

The first sentence should reiterate your main keywords! This first part of your description appears in search results and receives the most weighting in determining relevance. Don’t just list out your keywords though, make it an actual user friendly sentence.

“People are already starting to crack the one third mark for Paragon levels so I thought I would take a look at how long exactly it takes to reach Paragon level 100 in Diablo 3.”

As you can see in the first sentence I cover “Diablo 3″, “Paragon Level 100″ & “Paragon Level”.

Your first paragraph is also pretty important, so use it to target some additional keywords.

“As a by-product of this I also discover the best places to farm Paragon XP to level up quickly.”

The above is the other main sentence of the first paragraph, I’m sure you can pick out the keywords by now.

Finally, don’t underestimate the value of the rest of your description. I like to include links to my social media and other sites at the bottom but sometimes I’ll also write out a few more paragraphs of detail. I didn’t do this in the video we are looking at today but I have noticed increases in search traffic on other videos I have done this for.

Learning How People Phrase Their Searches

While it’s not too hard to come up with a good set of keywords for a niche you know it can sometimes be hard to know all of the different ways people search for the one topic. Alternate keywords like “power levelling” instead of “XP farming” can sometimes be hard to pick up on. I highly recommend reading a guide I wrote on Latent Semantic Indexing, or LSI. Seriously, check it out. It seems simple but knowing how to come up with these different keywords can help you capture a lot more search traffic.

Keep on Making Content, Testing New Techniques & Reviewing Past Successes

I learnt a lot reviewing this older video, even if you only earn a few dollars a month going back over your videos that are earning can reveal a lot of info about how people search and what keywords you are managing to capture. Some of my best keywords have come out of looking at how people have found my older videos.

Ever wonder how much money YouTubers earn? Ever wonder how full time YouTube creators got where they are? In these monthly earnings & strategy reports I document my monthly growth and earnings so you can see what it’s like to pursue YT as a career. I also share the strategies and tactics I used each month to get where I am!

I’m closing in on the 1 year mark on YT, I started seriously making videos around mid 2012 and with early 2013 starting to draw to a close things are getting pretty interesting!

My long term goal has always been reaching the $1000 a month mark in Adsense revenue (though of course I plan to set a new goal when I get there but I feel like this is the minimum for a successful career). I’m getting very close to my goals… so how much closer did I get this month? Check out the video below to find out!

Total Videos:

ZiggyDStarcraft – 47

RLZiggyD – 2

Views:

ZiggyDStarcraft – 392,289

RLZiggyD – 3,861

Total of – 396,142

Up from january’s total of 337,700

Net Subscriber Growth:

ZiggyDStarcraft – 2,068

RLZiggyD – 59

Gross Adsense Earnings:

$639.08 Australian from YouTube!

$8.55 from my various websites and online articles.

This is obviously huge growth from January’s total of around $390 and even Decembers total of $450. In terms of percentage growth it’s about 33% from December to February, discounting january as it’s the slow month in this business. If I see similar growth this month adding another 33% to Feb’s totals will result in around $800. In short I’m approaching my goal faster than predicted, which is very exciting.

What did I do this month (Strategy)?

Uploaded 1-2 videos a day consistently. Only one break for a couple of days where I couldn’t upload.

Prepared well for the launch of Path of Exile’s open beta. Strategy for this was to have as much beginner targetted content made as possible so I could capture that audience. A lot of the game’s newer players are now subscribers and seem to be enjoying the content I put up every day.

Still focusing on a smaller niche.

Ive also been networking a lot more than I used to. Out of it came a major podcast with Kripparrian, some co-produced videos with Happy Jack and even a giveaway deal with a gamecodes site.

The Goals for March are to keep up with being consistent to keep networking but more importantly to make my lifestyle a bit more healthy and sustainable. Working really hard can take it’s toll on your body and your motivation to do other things. A successful personal life is going to help with my YT success as well.

G’day ZiggyD here and welcome to my Beginner’s Quickstart guide series for the Action RPG Path of Exile. I have been playing in PoE’s closed beta for a number of months now and in preparation for the flood of new players coming at the launch of open beta (free-to-play) I have been putting together this series of video guides that cover a lot of the frequently asked questions.

If you simply want to watch the entire video series back to back then here is the link for the entire PoE guide playlist. Grab a snack because it’s over an hour all up.

The Path of Exile Beginner’s QuickStart Guide Overview

Path of Exile is a loot-based action RPG, a lot like the Diablo series and Titan Quest. You control your avatar from a top down perspective to smash enemies and grab excessive amounts of loot. People experienced with the genre will be able to jump right in and start playing but Path of Exile throws a few curve balls when it comes to the currency/crafting/trading system, the passive skill tree and the skill gem system. These deep systems can throw off even experienced ARPG players. In the above video I run you guys through most of these systems and give you a good idea of what to expect.

Diablo 3 vs. Path of Exile – Feature Differences

If you guys are coming over from Diablo 3 or if you aren’t sure of which game is better for you here is a comparison of the two games. I love both PoE and D3 so it’s a fairly unbiased look at the two games.

Choosing a Class in Path of Exile

This is the first step on your journey into Wraeclast and it’s important to understand the differences between the classes. PoE features a fairly interesting and non-linear class system where you can essentially do anything with any class but the choice is still important.

How to Plan Out Your Build in PoE (Theme, Passives & Skills)

The passive skill tree alone can be intimidating but when you have to start combining it with class choice and skill gems things can become pretty overwhelming in a hurry. In this guide I take you through the build creation process step by step trying to break it down as simply as possible.

Farming Guides (What to Pick Up & Where to Farm)

Every now and then you might hit a wall in PoE where it just becomes too difficult to keep pushing forward. At these times it pays to know how and where to farm for additional levels, gear and currency to strengthen your character. In this first video I show you what sort of things are worth picking up so you kn0w what to not waste your time on. Below are a series of ‘where to farm’ guides. The list is incomplete at the moment but the where to farm series will continue to grow over time.

Act 1: The Ledge

Act 2: The Forest (Monkeys)

Hopefully this series of guides gives you a good starting base of knowledge. There are many more things to learn and you will discover them over time as you play. Path of Exile is a difficult and deep game but it can be very rewarding if you take the time to learn it’s mechanics. If you are interested in seeing more of my video guides make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel.

Happy New Year everyone! 2013 is finally upon us, and with it comes a myriad of new games and (hopefully) console releases. As we patiently wait for the announcements to start coming in, I thought I’d wrangle up some of my predictions for what will happen in the game industry in 2013.

Although this video was completely unscripted and unfocused, I ended up covering the future of the MMO market, Bioshock Infinite, the WiiU and the upcoming announcements for the new Microsoft and new Sony consoles. If you guys disagree or want to share your predictions, feel free to leave your messages in the comment section under the video.

Compared to Marvel Versus Capcom 2, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 has a very large top tier roster. Most people say that Vergil or Zero are the best characters in UMvC3, but I disagree.

Dr. Doom has everything the best character needs. He has the best assist in the game in Hidden Missiles, one of the best beam assists in Plasma Beam and a fairly good third assist in Molecular Shield. These three assists alone make him the best assist character in the game, but that’s not all.

Dr. Doom also has one of the easiest corner combos ever and he has combos that are confirm-able off of almost anything almost anywhere on the screen. His foot dive (both his S and Forward H varieties) is one of the most feared moves in the game for a reason; it has a great hit box and confirms into Touch-of-Dead combos. Doom isn’t only about rushdown, though, as he has his trusty plasma beam, finger lasers AND air Heavy laser gun. His Team Air Combo potential is incredibly, he has a safe Delayed Hyper Combo and his THC leads to incredibly difficult to block mix ups.

If you’re looking for a third character to compliment your team with both amazing assists and strong on-screen presence, pick Dr. Doom. There’s a reason he’s the most played character in Ultimate. Doctor Victor Von Doom is the best character in Ultimate Marvel Versus Capcom 3.

I’d love to hear what your thoughts on who the best character is in UMvC3. Do you think Doom has what it takes to be the best? Do you think the power of Vergil, Zero, Crimson Viper, Magneto or Modok trump his utility? Leave a comment on this post or on the video on Youtube with your Top 5 tier lists.

After the advancements made in home consoles and the declining U.S. economy, the arcade scene in the United States has degraded almost to the point of extinction.

Old school arcades with street fighter and mortal kombat cabinets have been generally replaced with Chuckie Cheeses and Dave & Busters, which change the atmosphere from being really adult themed to being more family friendly. While this isn’t a problem, necessarily, it does alienate the old-school fighting game arcade goers from continuing their arcade patronage at these newer, family-oriented arcades.

In this new video I talk about my experiences with arcades, the last remaining “old-school” arcades in the U.S. as well as possible business models that might make the arcade experience a more viable business in today’s economy. If you have any experiences with more adult arcades in your area, I would love to hear about them, as they seem to be very few and far between these days. Support your local arcade and hobby shop!

There is often a lot of emotion around game comparisons for games that are very similar at their core and

There is often a lot of emotion around game comparisons for games that are very similar at their core and this is even more profound when the games are in a relatively small genre like the AoS/MOBA (LoL vs. DotA2 vs. HoN is the prime example of this emotiveness) genre or indeed the loot-based action RPG genre. In this article I wont be bashing the big guy or call the small guy a clone of the big guy, instead I really want to give an honest analysis of the features and gameplay in these two games so that players can find the one that’s right for them.

Note: this article is a transcript from the video embedded below. If you prefer to watch and listen then please check it out!

On that note I’d just like to mention that I am very fond of both Diablo 3 and Path of Exile and I play them both frequently, just look at my channel for evidence. I get vastly different forms of enjoyment out of either game despite them being in the same genre. However, neither game is for everyone, some may prefer what Path of Exile offers and others may better enjoy Diablo 3, there are even people that will find they don’t enjoy either, despite their best attempts to do so.

OVERVIEW

So let’s begin our analysis with a brief overview of the games. Diablo 3, as it’s name suggests is the third title in the popular franchise by developers Blizzard Entertainment. The Diablo series has a long history and a large base of hardcore fans who feel that the games have defined their genre, the loot based action role playing games. Diablo 3 costs around the standard price for a AAA PC title, which is $60 in Aussieland.

Path of Exile is an indie game created and personally funded by New Zealand based developers Grinding Gear Games headed by Chris Wilson. Chris has said with Path of Exile they are making the game they want to play. As heavy Diablo 2 players it’s easy to see that Path of Exile draws a lot of inspiration from the blizzard title but there are a number of elements inspired by games in other genres such as Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 10. Path of Exile is currently in closed beta and requires a supporter pack key, which can be purchased for $10. However, on January 23rd the game will enter open beta and will become free to play. From this point on all profits will come from cosmetic microtransactions. Both Diablo 3 and Path of Exile feature multiple classes, a wide range of skills, hordes of monsters to slay and huge amounts of loot – as is tradition.

COMBAT FLUIDITY AND DEPTH

My next point of comparison will be the fluidity and depth of combat. Combat is a huge part of action RPGs, it’s simply what you will spend most of your time doing in game. You slay minion after minion and boss after boss in the pursuit of perfecting your character.

Diablo 3 features and extremely well polished combat system that feels awesome to play. Almost every ability is smooth to execute and feels satisfying. Your enemies explode and the environment crumbles around you and even from level 1 you feel like a Demigod in battle. Depth in Diablo 3′s combat comes from how and when you use your skills and the mechanics of certain difficult enemies, usually champions and elites in the higher difficulties. You have to be aware of things like arcane lasers, molten trails, enemies that wall you in and ones that reflect a percentage of your damage back at you. Overall, Diablo 3 is a very satisfying game to play when it comes to combat.

Path of Exile features a combat system that starts out slow and awkward but that improves dramatically with your character as they increase their attack speed, move speed and range of abilities. Many players will be turned off by how slow combat feels for the first couple of hours but the ones that stick around will be rewarded with a very deep and satisfying combat system. Enemies in path of exile are about on par with Diablo 3 in terms of depth, certain ones will feature dangerous affixes and different base types of enemies will have different ways of killing you. However, the variety and synergies offered in the character skillset in path of exile are phenomenal. What starts out as a basic lightning arrow ability can eventually shoot arrows in an arc dictated by the distance of the cursor from your character. These arrows can then fork out from their initial targets to hit other targets. You can even modify the ability even further to consume life instead of mana. Alternatively you can leave it as a single lightning arrow but give it the ability to pierce through enemies instead whilst also penetrating their lightning resistances.

If I had to sum up the combat comparison in one sentence I would say Diablo 3 features a smooth enjoyable combat experience while Path of Exile features one with a large amount of depth.

ITEMIZATION, ECONOMY AND TRADING

As I have mentioned earlier gear is a huge part of these games and although you acquire a lot of your gear through combat trading with other players is also a big part of the experience. As such, my next point of comparison are the itemisation, the economy and the trading systems.

Both games feature a similar gear tier system that begins with basic non-magic items and moves into magic, rare and then legendary or unique items. There are a wide array of available stats and affixes available depending on the gear type and it’s rarity. In Diablo 3 the usefulness of these affixes depend largely on your class and the most popular ones are typically the mainstat for your class, vitality, resistances, critical hit chance and damage and attack speed. This has a restrictive effect on gearing as everyone is typically after the same gear, regardless of their builds except in very niche circumstances. In path of exile certain stats are still valued highly such as damage modifiers and resistances but the usefulness of most of the other stats depends largely on your build rather than on your class. While life may be very valuable to a blood magic Templar another Templar may find it useless as they are using a skill called Chaos Inoculation, which sets their maximum life to 1 and instead provides them with bonus energy shield. This means the gear in path of exile is much more varied but that it is also much harder to understand as a novice player.

The economy and trading system in either game are a huge point of differentiation and it’s one that you will notice almost right away.

Diablo 3 features a monetary system based on gold, which can be bought and sold through a real money auction house. This allows players with limited time to play the chance to buy some gold and jump right into higher level content. Trading of gear for gold is primarily done through the gold auction house, which is completely anonymous. This system is extremely convenient and allows for easy communication of the value of certain types of gear. However, the anonymous nature of the auction houses can leave you feeling quite distanced from the rest of the player base.

Path of Exile features no monetary system whatsoever. Instead trading is done through a 100% player to player barter system. There are items known as currency items and their value is relative to their usefulness in game as crafting materials. The most common and least valuable currency items are identify and town portal scrolls and the most valuable is the Mirror of Kalandra, which allows you to duplicate any item. Other currency includes orbs that allow you to turn a white item into a magic one and orbs that allow you to reforge the sockets on any piece of gear. As with any barter economy coincidence of wants is a huge part of trading, both parties in a trade need to have something the other one wants and this limits the amount of economic activity occurring overall. The lack of a price list also means that the value of certain items is mostly determined on an individual basis. It’s nowhere near as convienient as the Diablo 3 system though it certainly has it’s charms and means that you interact with the community a lot more.

BUILDS AND CUSTOMIZATION

A bid draw for any role playing game is creating your own personal avatar and making them as distinctive as possible. As such, my next point of comparison is how well you can customize your character in either game.

In Diablo 3 customization begins with class selection, continues with non permanent skill choices and ends with gear selection. As mentioned earlier the gearing system in Diablo 3 means that most characters will be wearing varying degrees of the same gear. Dyes are available but as they aren’t currently able to be used on legendary items many characters end up looking the same in the late game. Overall customization is very limited in Diablo 3, however it is something that I expect will improve over time.

In Path of Exile customization of your character is likely one of the main draws for many players. Customisation options will become even more varied once the game enters open beta since the developers will rely on the sale of cosmetic improvements to be able to feed themselves. However, even before this happens there is a lot of choice in how your character looks and functions in Path of Exile. You start off with a class choice which dictates only some core starting stats and your location on the massive skill tree, or SkillDrasil as it is affectionately known by the player base. From this point onwards you are free to take your character in any direction you like. if you feel like making your witch into a 2handed axe wielding fighter then you are completely free to do so. The classes are less defined than the ones in Diablo 3 as a result of this system but it means you have a lot more freedom of customisation. You also have a lot of freedom over your choice and modification of skills as well. As mentioned earlier you change the way a skill works dramatically and this is thanks to the skills essentially being items that you socket into your gear. Depending on what gems you socket together you can make your skills perform however you like them to.

END GAME CONTENT & EVENTS aka STUFF TO DO

Since the basis of this genre of games is levelling, finding gear and progressing your character satisfying end game content can be quite the design challenge for developers. The current end game for both games is fairly similar, increasing difficulties for you to gear for in Diablo 3′s monster power system and Path of Exiles map system. Key differences here lie in the variety of maps offered in path of exile and the uber bosses offered in Diablo 3′s infernal machine system. For players that like to very gradually improve their near perfect characters both of these systems are reasonably satisfying though I expect both games will have see some improvements in the future.

Sadly, this is where it ends for Diablo 3 in the ‘stuff to do’ category. Path of Exile picks up the reigns here with a rudimentary but enjoyable 1v1 and 3v3 PvP system and with the awesomely satisfying league events. As Path of Exile features a league system the developers are able to run timed events for players to participate in without affecting the main game. These events include timed Hardcore races and even the massively fun open world PvP cutthroat events. There are even turbo hardcore race leagues where monsters move and attack faster. These leagues feature minor currency awards, which can be taken back to the default league but mainly they simply provide more things for you to do. The fact that Diablo 3 doesn’t have a similar system completely baffles me.

DIFFICULTY AND ACCESSIBILITY

My final point of comparison for Diablo 3 and Path of Exile should hopefully cement your decision about which game is right for you. There is a lot of debate about whether this genre of games should be about being difficult or whether they should be about coming up with efficient builds but to this I say why not both?

Diablo 3 features a fairly linear difficulty curve. You can fairly safely take a character from normal mode to the start of inferno without any backtracking or farming for levels. In the past you would hit a wall in your progression at the beginning of inferno but after a series of balance changes and with better gear becoming cheaper it’s pretty easy to go straight from Hell mode into inferno progression with only the gold you made while levelling. From this point onwards the difficulty scales exponentially with the monster power system though at a certain point it stops being difficult and instead becomes time consuming as the health of enemies far out scales their damage output. Dying is not really much of a problem in softcore mode as the only penalty is repair costs.

Path of Exile’s difficulty comes in two forms, it’s complexity and in the actual content. It’s generally accepted that you will screw up your first character and that you will hit a wall in one of the later difficulties where you can no longer progress. At this point your best option is to take what you have learned about what makes an effective build and to start again. Since there is an experience penalty on death in every difficulty but normal brute forcing your way through content isn’t very viable. This all means that the difficulty curve in Path of Exile can feel quite bumpy, you may have a viable end game build but you also need a a viable build to level with, and the same goes for the opposite.

In terms of accessibility Diablo 3 has it’s points of complexity but is generally the easier of the two to understand. Defensive stats all pretty much do the same thing and as long as you have enough of them you only really need to focus on increasing your damage. path of Exile is a lot more complex and there are a lot more mechanics to understand if you want to successfully craft anything but a cookie cutter build. This complexity can be a turn off for players that are mainly looking for a relaxing way to spend the evenings while it can be a huge draw for hardcore theory-crafters.

Hopefully by this point most of know which game is right for you, although both games appear similar on the surface they are definitely suited to different player bases. Alternatively, you might find yourself like me, unable to do anything but enjoy both of them for the different experiences they offer.

Diablo 3 is a game that is all about the finding awesome loot. It’s both the means and the end – you get good gear to farm for better gear. Typically the best and coolest gear in the Diablo series has always been the legendaries and set items, and it’s these coveted prizes that we pay homage to today – welcome to my list of the top 10 legendaries and set items in Diablo 3!

Don’t forget, with the Real Money Auction House in full swing some of these can be worth hundred of real dollars! So get hunting!

Check out the full video here to see these epic Diablo 3 legendaries in action!

If you are watching the video be warned – there are spoilers below!

#10 – Inna’s Temperance [Pants - Inna's Set]

Pants are never really a very exciting piece of gear but they are a necessary one. Inna’s Temperance are possibly about as exciting as you can get in the world of leg protection – they feature out of slot attack speed, critical hit chance and move speed making them great for almost any class but Demon Hunters and Monks especially. They are bright blue however, and it can be kind of hard to match them with any other piece of gear. Here’s hoping that Blizzard implement dye for legendaries soon!

#9 – Echoing Fury [1H Mace]

The legendary mace that melee classes love to hate. You get excellent damage and stats but you have to live with the frustration of fear on hit. As a ranged class fear on hit isn’t much of an issue but melee classes need to be close to their enemies and having them scamper off in all directions can be a nightmare.

#8 – The Manticore [2H Crossbow]

The Manticore is extremely slow to fire but packs a real punch. This is all thanks to the ability to roll two sockets for twice the critical hit damage – something that doesn’t appear on any other weapon in the game. If you want a hardcore DPS Demon Hunter then the Manticore is the way to go, it even works pretty well on Witch Doctors as well!

#7 – Dead Man’s Legacy [Quiver]

More Demon Hunter goodness here in the form of a unique quiver. The Dead Man Legacy (DML) is so good that it has literally destroyed the market for rare quivers – even the worst DML is better than the best rare quiver. No self respecting Demon Hunter should be seen without one!

#6 – Zunimasa’s Trail [Boots - Zunimasa's Set]

The Zunimasa’s set is becoming more and more popular for Wizards and Witch Doctors and Zuni’s Trail is probably the best piece from the set. This is all thanks to that out-of-slot 7-8% poison bonus damage, which can add a huge amount of DPS to characters wielding non-elemental weapons. They also roll with a great amount of Intelligence and a solid amount of Vitality, making them good all round boots.

#5 – Mempo of Twilight [Helmet]

The Mempo of Twilight has a fair bit of competition from Andarial’s helmet, Natalya’s Helmet, Zuni’s Helmet and the Immortal King’s Helmet but it manages to come out on top as the best combined DPS and defensive helmet in the game. It’s also extremely ugly, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on what you are going for. If you love the Ninja Turtles Samurai look the you will be very pleased with the Mempo. This helmet rolls with a socket, attack speed, % life, all resist and a single main stat. If you can manage to roll critical hit chance as one of the random affixes then you are going to be rolling in gold.

#4 – Natalya’s Mark [Ring - Legacy Natalya's Set]

Nothing divides the community more than the Legacy Natalya’s set, in fact Demon Hunters with a legacy set are essentially a different class with a different set of rules to those without it. This is all thanks to that 2 discipline regen per second 4-set bonus. Discipline was designed as a powerful but extremely limited resource but with the legacy Nat’s set that ”extremely limited’ part is removed. The Mark is the most expensive piece of this amazing set and that’s simply because it’s the only one that is somewhat good and without it you are forced to use the horrible Hand crossbow with it’s 400 or so DPS. Since patch 1.0.4 the legacy set can no longer drop in game, instead being replaced by the still decent but not game breaking 1.0.4 set. You can be sure that those Demon Hunters with a full legacy set will be cherishing them for a long time to come.

#3 – Lacuni Prowlers [Bracers]

Lacuni Prowlers can roll move speed. That’s pretty much the main reason why they are so popular. Everyone wants to run fast in D3 and while Demon Hunters and Monks have Inna’s Temperance for this every other class needs a pair of Lacunis. They can roll out-of-slot attack speed as well so if you can get some decent affixes in the random slots then you can have a pretty solid pair of bracers.

#2 – Vile Wards [Shoulders]

Nothing says best in slot better than the Vile Wards. For all but Barabarians the main stat rolls of the Vile Wards far exceed those possible on rare shoulders. If you can manage to get a pair with vitality then you have not only one of the best defensive pieces of gear in the game but also the best possible offensive shoulders money can buy. There isn’t much else to be said about this piece, it’s just the best in slot, so expect almost everyone you meet in game to be rocking those goat-horned shoulders.

#1 – The Hellfire Ring

The Hellfire Ring has only been out for one patch and already it has risen to be the most popular legendary in the game. Sure, with fireball it’s a cool item but what really sets it apart?

Firstly, the Hellfire ring can roll a higher mainstat than any other ring and it has enough random affixes to become a pentafecta with Crit Chance, Crit damage, attack speed, and an integer damage bonus. With that alone it’s a possible best in slot item.

The second reason it’s so popular is that it gives a whopping 35% bonus experience, which can cut days of farming out of your quest to paragon 100.

The final reason the hellfire is number one on this list is that it is the outcome of Blizzard’s first attempt at end game content in Diablo 3. Currently if you aren’t farming for paragon experience or gear then you are fighting ubers and making hellfire rings because that’s what there is to do. With these three things combined it’s hardly surprising that most people you bump into have at least one Hellfire ring and this is why it comes in at #1 on the top 10 list of the bets legendaries in Diablo 3.
