Freelance Writing Journal: Entry 1 – Getting Started with Freelance Writing

This series of articles will follow my foray into the world of freelance writing. Hopefully it can serve as a guide for other newcomers and can help a few people decide if freelance writing is for them.

Entry 1 – Getting Started with Freelance Writing

Before now the extent of my freelance writing experience is doing some high school-level homework for some friends so if you are looking for a beginners journey into freelancing, I’m your man. I will try to walk you through the highs and lows, my feelings and any tips I discover along the way. If you find this series helpful or interesting please consider commenting or sharing it over Twitter/Facebook etc.

Gamifying RLHighscore: MyIncrwd

We all love scores. We also love freebies. That’s why when I first discovered MyIncrwd I knew that it would be perfect for RLHighscore.

MyIncrwd provides incentives for you to do what you already when you visit here. Every time you visit this site, like a page, share something or leave a comment you will earn points which can be redeemed for prizes. At first the offerings are pretty basic, just a few giftcards. However, if MyIncrwd ends up working well and if you, the readers, like it I will add even more prizes myself (free games anyone?).

Read on to find out how it works.

It’s All About Balance

I’m not talking about Big Mac and a Diet Coke type balance. I mean balancing gaming, earning money, health and fitness, friends and family and self time. Achieving a perfect balance is extremely hard, perhaps even impossible but we have to do the best we can to fit all of the things we need to do and love to do into our daily lives.

Balance is hard to define – because what a balanced lifestyle constitutes is different for everyone. In my mind a 9-5 job five days a week isn’t balanced, in fact I felt horrible when I was doing that. But this may not be the case for other people. Finding what your balance is means figuring out how much you need to work to be happy (covering expenses with enough left over to do the things you enjoy) without actually getting yourself to a point where you don’t have enough time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You could work a 50 hour week and not have enough time or energy to even enjoy the money you earn from it.

Beginner’s Guide to Writing for Adsense Revenue Share

Google Adsense A Beginner’s Guide to Residual Income From a Beginner

There are two ways to learn things: from a master in the field, and, from another beginner. I have always been a fan of the second approach (such as with Learning Starcraft 2 website) because I feel that masters lose touch with the struggles of the beginner. Other beginners, however, know exactly what you will go through trying to learn and a relationship of mutual learning can take place.

I am a beginner to Adsense revenue share, I dabbled last year but my first genuine foray into revenue share was January 2012. So far my efforts are earning me ‘beer money’ but they are increasing rapidly and my Adsense income could become one of my biggest earners over the next 12 months – if I stick with it (which I plan to). The great thing about Adsense revenue is that it continues earning after you start working. A few years after I stop writing I will still be making money from my content.

If building a passive income stream that keeps earning when you stop working interests you then read on. Read More »

Meal Planning to Save Money and Effort

Save money and Effort With Meal Planning and Still Eat the Things You Enjoy

Organising meals, especially dinner, has been a constant drain for my partner and myself. We both love to cook but actually thinking about what to make and then going out to get ingredients is pretty painful. We also ended up wasting a lot of food with many fresh ingredients going off because we never had a way to use them. The lackadaisical approach to meals just isn’t effective and when we moved houses we knew it was time for a clean start. We decided that we would have a set meal plan reduce wastage, save money and remove a lot of the effort of meal organisation.

It’s only been three days since we started our meal plan and we are already loving it. Right now I don’t know what is on the plan for tonight’s dinner but I am not worrying about it at all because I know that all of the ingredients are already there and all I have to do is get up, read the plan and make it. Since we made the plan out of our favourite meals I also know that I going to enjoy whatever it is we are having tonight.

Here’s a few tips on how to set up your own meal plan:
