Why Can’t I Monetize My YouTube Account with Adsense?

19 Aug 2012 by ZiggyD, No Comments »

Today I answer one of the most frequently asked questions on my RLZIggyD YouTube channel: “Why Can’t I Monetize My YouTube Channel?”. It seems that quite a few people are having problems in setting up their monetization through Adsense so I explain the four main reasons that seem to give people trouble.

Check out the video for my answer or read on below.

Under 18?

Adsense is not Available to people under 18 Years old, regardless of where they are in the world. The only way around this is to have your parents create a channel and an Adsense account. Once these are approved and linked you can then have them link your channel to their Adsense.

Not in Your Country?

Adsense video monetization is simply not available in some countries. I’ll put a list of the currently accepted countries. Note that there may be others as YouTube is constantly trying to increase the size of this list.

The countries that can currently monetize through Adsense are:

Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the USA.

Account Standing and Copyright Infringements

You may have copyright strikes or your account may not be in good standing for some other reason. To see the current standing of your account simply click your name in the top right and click settings. There are three circles under ‘account status’: Community Guidelines, Copyright strikes and Content ID claims. If one of these circles is red then this is the reason you don’t have the option to monetize your account. You may be able to bring your account back into good standing by deleting infringing content, but not always. If this is the case then your only option is to create a completely new channel.

Glitches!

The fourth and final reason might be that there is simply a glitch in YouTube, your account, or in your browser. This seems to actually happen to a lot of people and it has happened to me once before when I was trying to apply for an increase in video length. If none of the above options seem to apply to you then this is probably the reason.

The first thing to try to fix not being able to see the monetization option is to try a new browser. I normally use Chrome as my primary browser, but I also have Opera, Safari, and Firefox. I recommend trying all of these to see if one works. Using alternate browsers has fixed some upload problems for me in the past.

If this doesn’t help then there is one more thing to try yourself before contacting YouTube support for answers. Try making a new channel with a new email and seeing if the option to monetize is available. If it is then click the link, and copy the URL. Don’t worry about monetizing this new account if you don’t want to. Now sign back into your main account, paste the monetization page URL and hit enter. If this takes you to a page where you can enable monetization then great! If not then you may have an actual issue with your account, which means you need to contact YouTube support. Don’t expect much of an answer though, as YouTube support are notoriously unreliable.
